Science and Nature in Early Modern Europe (1450-1750)
San Lorenzo de El Escorial is located at the heart of the Sierra of Guadarrama and only 50 Km from Madrid (Note: El Escorial and San Lorenzo de El Escorial are two different towns 1.5 Km away). This Historic-Artistic town grew up around the Royal Monastery founded by Felipe II in the 16th century and now declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Traveling by airplane: We would recommend to take a taxi from the Airport Madrid Barajas to Moncloa metro/bus station, and there to board the 661 bus line (Madrid-Moncloa to San Lorenzo de El Escorial). This "green bus" (color of suburban buses) will drop you within 30m of the Hotel. The taxi from Barajas to Moncloa should cost - about 20 Euro. The bus fare is about 6 Euro, with the ticket being purchased on the bus.
An alternative option is to take the suburban rail. First take...
And then, take...
But unlike the bus it does not go to San Lorenzo, and leaves you at the train station 1.5 km short of the hotel. However, a local bus from the train station to the bus station provides a regular service, synchronized with train arrivals, from 7:00 to 22:30 local time.
Finally, the third option is to take a taxi from the airport to San Lorenzo de El Escorial, with an estimated price of 65 Euro.
